The winners of the 11th annual TOP IT Projects for Oil and Gas Industry Competition were awarded at the 5th Smart Oil & Gas: Digital Transformation of Oil & Gas Industry Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Developed with support from Gazprom Neft and ITSK, a solution by Simpl scored the victory in the Specialised Software Solution category.
Irina Dmitriyeva, Head of Integrated Planning at Gazprom Neft Production Directorate, noted that before the unified information system, the company used Excel-based calculation modules for planning purposes. Due to large data quantities, controlling data consistency and invariance when planning and monitoring investment projects was tedious. Now with the unified information system, the production can be planned for each well for 100 years. The tool is already in use at 8 of the company’s production assets, as well as at the Science and Technology Centre and Corporate Centre.
- The use of machine-learning for statistical information management has significantly reduced the labour effort by users when generating clusters to calculate averaged decline rates’, said Irina Dmitriyeva. ‘The quality of production planning control has improved considerably. The system allows to systematise the computed data coordination process and build a transparent initiator/approver system. The project integration with related business units allows for seamless data transfer and solves the data inconsistency problem. This solution facilitates well-by-well oil production monitoring as well as probabilistic modeling of oil production volumes for risk assessment purposes.
The main competition criteria for project selection by the jury panel included scalability, innovativeness as well as complexity, transparency and effectiveness (improving company profitability). The Simpl Group of Companies developed a unique solution that became the first Russian IT product in Upstream to support an end-to-end, cross-functional process of operating and investment activity.
Projects developed or implemented in 2018-2019 were accepted for the competition. This year, award-winning projects were selected out of 78 entries in 5 categories: Specialised Software Solution for Oil & Gas, Digital Field, Digital Plant, Information Security and Industrial Automation.
